How It Works

Share Your Story

Your care begins with a thorough intake form that captures your symptoms, history, lifestyle patterns, and personal goals. This allows our team to understand your story and determine the most appropriate starting point for your care.

Meet Your Care Team

Depending on what your case calls for, you'll be matched with the clinician best suited to your needs — whether that's working one-on-one with Dr. B himself, with his physician assistant Kate D'Orazio (with Dr. B consulting directly on your case), or with our nutrition specialist Kathryn Adel, RDN, for nutrition-focused care.

Personalized Plan

You'll leave with a plan built specifically for your physiology and goals — not a generic protocol. Whether that means medical management, nutrition therapy, microbiome-focused strategy, or a follow-up consultation with Dr. B directly, every recommendation is grounded in the same rigor that has made Dr. Bulsiewicz's work trusted by millions.

Our Clinical Services

We offer several forms of expert-guided care that may be used individually or together, depending on your medical and nutritional needs.

Medical & Preventive Care, Tailored to You

Intake → Visit 1: In-depth Consultation → Visit 2: Personalized Plan

Whether you’re managing a specific condition or want to invest in long-term prevention, we provide both medical and preventive digestive care. If you’re struggling with persistent digestive symptoms, chronic inflammation, or complex GI concerns that haven’t fully resolved, our medical consultations are designed to look deeper — identifying root drivers and creating a clear, personalized path forward. We also offer preventive digestive health consultations for individuals who feel well but want to proactively strengthen their gut, optimize microbiome health, and build long-term resilience before problems develop.

Care is available in two ways: working with PA Kate D’Orazio, who consults directly with Dr. B on your case, or working one-on-one with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz himself. You’ll choose the track that’s right for you when you schedule.

Work Directly with Dr. B

Intake → Meet with Dr. B

Work directly with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz (“Dr. B”), a triple board-certified gastroenterologist and lifestyle medicine physician known for translating leading-edge gut and microbiome science into clear, practical care. Whether you need a single consultation or ongoing follow-up, your time with Dr. B is intentional, focused, and deeply personalized. Each visit goes beyond symptom control to identify underlying drivers, prioritize what truly matters, and create a clear, evidence-based strategy tailored to your physiology and goals.

For those who benefit from continuity, follow-up consultations are available to refine and adapt your plan over time. Complex digestive and inflammatory conditions rarely resolve in a single step; progress requires thoughtful iteration. Through coordinated integration of medical, nutritional, microbiome, and lifestyle strategies, we replace fragmented care and guesswork with a cohesive roadmap built for measurable, lasting results.

What We Prioritize in Your Care

1. Digestive Health & GI Conditions

We evaluate symptoms, disorders, and digestive patterns to understand the root causes driving discomfort or dysfunction.

2. Chronic Inflammation & Immune Response

Your gut-immune axis plays a central role in inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. We assess how your microbiome and immune system interact to affect whole-body health.

3. Prevention & Long-Term Resilience

We look for early patterns — microbiome shifts, lifestyle factors, and clinical signals — to help prevent future disease and strengthen long-term gut resilience.

FAQs

Will I be working directly with Dr. B?

Dr. B serves as Medical Director and is actively involved in guiding the clinical strategy of the practice. All medical and preventive care plans are developed within a physician-led framework and reviewed under his supervision to ensure alignment with our evidence-based, root-cause approach.

Patients who wish to work directly with Dr. B may schedule a New Patient Consultation or Follow-up Visit with him. All other medical consultations are conducted by PA Kate D’Orazio, who works under Dr. B’s direct consultation to deliver cohesive, physician-guided care.

What changes can I expect to see?

We do not guarantee outcomes, but patients often experience improved digestive function, reduced inflammation patterns, enhanced energy, and greater clarity about their health. Your results depend on your condition, medical needs, and individualized treatment plan.

How does nutrition play a role in this program?

Nutrition is a core pillar of digestive and inflammatory health.
You may work with our Registered Dietitian, Kathryn Adel, to receive formal Medical Nutrition Therapy. MNT bundles are available.

How can I share information with my primary care physician?

With your written consent, we can provide summaries, laboratory interpretations, and clinical documentation directly to your primary care provider.

Can I use an HSA/FSA to pay for GMCE?

You may choose to submit your receipts to your HSA/FSA provider for potential reimbursement, but GMCE does not process HSA/FSA payments directly.

Do you accept insurance?

No. The Gut and Microbiome Center for Excellence operates on a self-pay basis and does not bill or accept insurance directly. This model allows Dr. B to spend meaningful, unhurried time with each patient rather than working within the constraints of a typical insurance-based visit.

Why doesn’t the clinic accept insurance?

Working outside of insurance allows Dr. B to focus entirely on your care without the volume-driven visit limits, prior authorizations, and administrative constraints that come with insurance-based practices. This structure is what makes the level of access and attention at the core of this clinic possible.

Is Dr. B my primary gastroenterologist or primary care provider?

No. Dr. B is available for scheduled consultations within the scope of this practice, but is not able to provide urgent or emergency care and does not serve as your primary gastroenterologist or primary care provider. All patients should maintain a primary care provider and a local gastroenterologist they can contact for urgent concerns. For patients local to the Charleston, SC area who don’t currently have a local GI, Dr. B can refer you to a trusted colleague.

What if I have an urgent gastrointestinal issue?

This practice is not equipped to handle urgent or emergency care. For urgent concerns, please contact your primary care provider, local gastroenterologist, or go to the nearest emergency room.

Do you see pediatric patients?

No. This is an adult gastroenterology practice and we do not see patients under 18.

Do I need to re-establish care if it’s been a while since my last visit?

If more than 6 months have passed since your last appointment (we allow a 30-day grace period beyond that), your next visit is billed as a New Patient or Initial visit rather than a Follow-up. This isn’t a penalty — it simply gives us the time to properly review what’s changed in your health since we last saw you and make sure your care plan still reflects where you are today before moving forward.
